Stillness

Could you be in the same room with a person for a while and not say anything? How about when you are in an elevator going up several floors? Do you feel like you need to say something?

Would you feel like you need to call someone or go somewhere if you were home alone for a whole weekend? I write all of this because I have felt all of those things. David writes in Psalm 37:7, "Be still before the Lord and wait patiently on Him". How many times, when we are spending time with God we feel as though we have to say something or do something? Other versions read that we need to "rest" in the Lord. Most of the time when want some QT with God we think of the spiritual disciplines (pray, read, service, fasting, etc). But what about listening and being still before God?

Ecclesiates 5:2 says :

Do not be quick with your mouth,
do not be hasty in your heart
to utter anything before God.
God is in heaven
and you are on earth,
so let your words be few.

I want to give you a challenge this week. When you take time during your day to study the Bible, pray, serve, or anything to praise God, match the time with being still before God or rest before Him and let your words be few.

Live it,
BB
